The Hon’ble Minister of State for Defence Dr.Subhash Ramrao Bhamre inaugurated the Digidhan Mela conducted at JDT Convention hall, Vellimadukunnu, Kozhikode on 26th February 2017. The objective of this Mela is to create awareness about various digital payment systems available and to handhold users in installing and using them.


“There has been a massive spurt in the use of digital payment channels in the country after demonetisation”, the Union Minister said during his inaugural address.    He also said that the number of point of sale (PoS) machines in the country has increased from 8 lakh to 28 lakh after demonetisation and the value volume of transactions through USSD service registered a 4,390% growth between December 2016 and January 2017.

"The Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) app has so far been downloaded 17 million times which is a world record. It will unleash the power of mobile platform for digital payment and financial inclusion. Also data shows that there was 285% growth in Aadhaar-Enabled Payment Systems (AEPS) during the period," the minister highlighted during the inaugural speech.

Hon’ble Minister presented memento to the Iringal Village Team which is the first declared Digtal Village in Kozhikode. He also flagged-off   Auto rickshaws   in the city with PoS machines installed.  Lucky draw for selection of winners under Rupay, USSD, UPI and AePS were also carried out by the dignitaries during the inaugural session. Prize   for Winners of Slogan, Jingles and quiz Contest were also distributed in the function.

There were around 40 stalls from different sectors such as National Informatics Centre, Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum, IT Mission, Information Kerala Mission, Akshaya, , FACT, BSNL, RelianceJio, State Bank of India, State Bank of Travancore, Union Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Airtel, Kerala Gramin Bank, etc. to provide information on their online payment services to the public. Smt. Mercy Sebastian, DIO Kozhikode has presented various eGov initiatives and e-payment integrated projects   by NIC to the participants.
